Looking for LAN games that you and your mates can play during summer breaks, holidays or reunions? When there is no internet connection LAN games are the ultimate entertainment with your buddies. Here is a list of games i made which will run fairly on even older systems with outdated graphics card or processors.
NOTE: Order is random
1. CALL OF DUTY 4 MODERN WARFARE
Certainly the best FPS from the modern warfare franchise, it has a wide range of weapons and maps to play on for several hours straight.Even though the game released back in 2007 its
graphics are decent for today's standards.
Settings up/ hosting local server is pretty self explanatory.
There are several game modes to play including free for all, team death match,
domination,search & destroy and sabotage
2. LEFT 4 DEAD FRANCHISE
If you love zombie world like the walking dead, dawn of the dead then this is game for you.
There are many zombie titles such as dead island, plants vs zombies but these are'nt as good as
left 4 dead game-play.
The versus mode is fun to play as teammates have to plan it out & work together to survive the
round. There is also mode to play as infection.
3. DYING LIGHT
Dying light has beautiful open world where you can either fight or flee when you encounter
Zombies/walkers.The game requires a beefy CPU and graphics card to run at good settings
at higher resolutions.
You can team up with 4 of your friends to play coop, finish the story mode.
With the new DLC the game has expanded even further.
4. MINECRAFT
This open world sandbox game released in 2010 its still popular even in 2016.
You can build anything from a small shack to a gigantic Colosseum.
It runs on almost all pcs, laptops, macs as hardware requirement is very low.
For the ones who love high graphics game play there is always mods.
Sonic ether in particular transforms the pixel minecraft into beautiful open world.
Settings up bukkit server and hosting local game is simple.
The game can be played for hours can you wont feel bored as there is so much to do in Minecraft!
5. BORDERLANDS 2
Borderland 2 is a blend of first person shooter and role playing.
You can team up in coop mode and spend hours leveling up the characters you choose, there are
crazy number of weapons/ equipment you can find in game. The classes have evolved with addition
DLCs, the boss fights and story mode is of the best in this genre.

7. ARMA 2, ARMA 3 and ARMA 2 DAYZ MOD SURVIVAL
Arma series is a brilliant military simulation by Bohemia studios.
The dayZ mod requires Arma 2 and operation arrowhead dlc.
I wouldn't call this fun if you have just 3-4 friends for a lan party as you can run for several hours
and may end up not finding each other especially if you are new to the game.If you a college LAN
party (minimum of 20) then this title is a must if you can know how it feels to survive in a world
where you can trust anyone. You can team up with players to form a strong group or play solo.
8. ALIEN SWAM free on steam
If you like survival genre and aliens then this is game for you.
If you played crimsonland back in day then you will definitely like this game,
4 friends can team up to beat the alien waves.

I'm old-school so the term LAN Party means "local" as in offline. Being out of the loop for many years, and finding myself wanting to rekindle the gaming spirit, I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how some of these games can be used at a LAN party. Most of these games require an internet connection to play. I have a cable modem connection with an average or 100 Mbs on a good day. Is it possible to host a 6-10 player LAN party with these "online" LAN games with this type of connection speed?
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance if anybody every answers.
I agree LAN means Local Area Network to me and WLAN Wide Local Area Network, most of the programmers get it wrong these days, I'm also just looking for LAN games because to me it means a distance of roughly 150m-200m, WLAN would make more sense to need a network connection because this would be more WIDEly spread, (Please people in your adds get this right, it will at the end get your website or software/games a better liking and not just be an irritation).
